Mrs. Hanaa Sorour

Since 2004, Counselor Hanaa Sorour is the Director of the Department of Women Affairs at the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States, and the President of the Technical Secretariat of the Consultative Arab women committee.
For 10 Years since 1992, She was responsible for the social and legal file in LAS Secretary General Cabinet . she was also nominated as a member of the Foreign Relations Committee at The National Council for Women (2007-2008) and a member for several Arbitrage committees for the media works competition organized by different Arabic associations and agencies.

As the Director of the Women Department she had supported the issues of Arab Women through several achievements and collective Arab initiatives, through Organizing several high level Arab conferences, seminars and regional workshops concerning the Arab women issues related to the advancement of the role of women and implementation of several programs including : The Issuing of the official website the for first Encyclopedia on "the status of women in Arab legislation" To serve as a database and a reference document to guide the Arab states in developing or amending laws related to women, An initiative to support the cause of imprisoned Palestinian women.

She is preparing and about to launch a regional strategy to eradicate women's illiteracy in the Arab region, in addition to another one for “ The Arab women Peace and security “.
Ms Sorour Has prepared and published several research and reports on the Status of Women in Arab countries, namely : "The efforts of the League of Arab States in implementing the Declaration and Platform for Action (1995)" /"Status of women in Arab countries 2000-2005" / The "Unified Arabic report" / "10 Years Review For The Implementation of the Beijing Platform For Action"/ " Violence towards women in armed conflicts “ .
Education: “ Diplome d` Etudes Approfondies DEA “Toulouse University for Social Sciences , (1982) and Bachelor degree for Political Sciences and Economics , Cairo University (1979).
